After a soft and anemic January and February, March storms in with a number of movies worth seeing. From sword-and-sorcery, wizards and witches, to teen comedies, romantic comedies and thrilling actioners, this month has plenty to choose from.

21 and Over:

The writers of the Hangover series offer the story of a trio of friends going out for a beer to celebrate a 21st birthday. Straight-A medical student Jeff decides to throw caution to the wind and hit the bar the night before a crucial interview. A friendly pint turns into a night of binge drinking, decadence and depravity. The film is directed by Jon Lucas and Scott Moore and stars Miles Teller, Justin Chon, and Jonathan Kelz.

Jack the Giant Slayer:

The Cornish fairy tale gets the big screen treatment from X-men director Bryan Singer. In this version, a young farmhand named Jack opens a portal between two worlds and reignites an ancient war between humans and giants. Can Jack rescue the princess and drive the giant invaders from his homeland? The movie stars Eleanor Tomlinson, Ewan McGregor, and Nicholas Hoult as Jack.

Tina Fey, Paul Rudd and Michael Sheen star in this romantic comedy about Portia (Fey), an Ivy League admissions officer who visits an alternative high school run by her former college classmate, played by Paul Rudd. Portia discovers a talented young boy who just may be the son she gave up for adoption years ago. The straight-laced recruiter risks her job by bending the rules for the unconventional but gifted student.

Dead Man Down:

The Director of the original “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” makes his American theatrical debut with this action thriller about two strangers and their thirst for revenge. Colin Farrell star as a mob enforcer who seeks vengeance for the death of his best friend’s family after a mysterious crime lord gives the order for the hit. Noomi Rapace plays Beatrice, the blackmailer who seduces and ensnares him in her web of lies. The film also stars Terrence Howard and opens March 8th.

Oz the Great and Powerful:

If you missed The Wizard of Oz at Theatre Royal Drury Lane you can catch the prequel starring James Franco, Mila Kunis and Rachel Weisz. Franco plays Oscar Diggs as a sideshow magician with questionable ethics who finds himself transported to a dangerous fantasy world filled with treachery and sorcery. Evanora, Theodora and Glinda are the three witches who task the charlatan with deposing an evil force before it can destroy the entire enchanted kingdom. Oscar must discover who is good and who is evil to save the inhabitants of Oz before it is too late. The movie is based on the Land of Oz books by L. Frank Baum and directed by Spider-man’s Sam Raimi.
