Yamla Pagla Deewana 2, Is the Movie upto Expectations ?

Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 hits the scene with oomph. But the question is whether the much-awaited Dharmendra, Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol starrer lives up to the expectations of the movie buffs?

The answer is simply a lemon since the sequel to successful Yamla Pagla Deewana is not a treat to enjoy with. The film largely relies on fun and entertainment, but both of these things are missing in the narrative. The new director Sangeeth Sivan has been taken on board this time around. The writer and the director try their level best to make the movie a mesmerizing and fun-filled extravaganza. But unfortunately they failed in their efforts to raise the spirits of the cine buffs.

Dharmendra, the man behind the production, was much confident for the success for the sequel as well. But the actor will have to face the music since the content is not what today’s intelligent viewer wants to see on celluloid. Dharmendra and his sons – Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol are impressive in their performances. But only the performances alone cannot do anything when the story and the screenplay are not powerful at all. The same is the case with Yamla Pagla Deewana 2.

The prequel to the movie was a big success and this success was what made Dharmendra to work on a sequel. But the things could not go in the same lines. The biggest flaw of the weakness of the movie is undoubtedly the script which is not attention-grabbing and worthwhile. The humor, which was targeted as the main ingredient of the movie, is poor.

The film talks about Dharam (Dharmendra) and his two sons – Paramveer (Sunny Deol) and Gajodhar aka Prem (Bobby Deol). Paramveer resides in London and works with a business mogul Yograj Khanna (Annu Kapoor). Both Dharam and Prem have eyes on the big wealth of Yograj Khanna being thugs. They land in London and Dharam makes Prem to woo Yograj’s daughter (Neha Sharma) to marry her so that her father’s wealth can be fetched. But they have to face a macho hurdle – their own blood Paramveer.
The plot is not good as it should have been. The use of chimpanzee too could not ignite the souls and the humor quotient. The script is lackluster. Jasvinder Singh Bath tried to write a good fun-filled narrative, but sadly he could not succeed in his effort. The first half of the film is super boring and you want to skip away from the theater. The wait for the second half to be a laugh-riot and alluring too is not worth at all, as the post interval portion gets you bored as well.
The direction is poor as well. It had to be because the director was handed over a full of flaws script to execute a film on. Cinematography is appealing. Music is run of the mill, as there is hardly any track to impress your ears. Although in few of the tracks, Punjabi flavor exists, but overall essence of the album makes you dry.
Only the Deols impress the audiences with their power-packed performances. Dharamendra’s comedy is fantastic as usual. Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol allure the souls with their parts. Others on board deliver good piece of acting as well.
Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 is not a film your hard-earned money should be spent on. If you nonetheless want to watch, then watch it only for Deols’ performances. Not recommended at all.
